Lead Financial Strategy That Supports Organizational Success

Western Health Advantage is seeking a strategic and experienced Finance Director to help drive the financial strength and long-term success of the organization. In this senior leadership role, you will work closely with the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Finance team to oversee core financial functions, ensure regulatory compliance, and support organizational planning and performance.

This role is ideal for a finance leader who combines strong technical accounting expertise with collaborative leadership, operational insight, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
 

What You’ll Do

As Finance Director, you will oversee financial operations and partner with leadership across the organization to support sound decision-making and financial stewardship. Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the CFO in developing and executing organizational strategies, financial plans, and the annual budget

  • Reviewing and analyzing departmental and organizational performance against targets, KPIs, and business objectives

  • Collaborating with executive leadership to develop and implement plans to address performance gaps and achieve business goals

  • Aligning and documenting departmental priorities, goals, and objectives on a quarterly and monthly basis

  • Representing the Finance department by presenting financial performance, project updates, and analysis to internal and external stakeholders

  • Supporting the CFO in developing and maintaining key stakeholder relationships

  • Managing departmental staffing plans and overseeing hiring, training, supervision, and performance management in partnership with Human Resources

  • Maintaining high performance standards through regular communication, coaching, counseling, and performance evaluations

  • Promoting ongoing professional development for Finance staff and maintaining personal professional growth

  • Overseeing all financial accounting, reporting, and financial statement operations in accordance with GAAP and statutory standards

  • Developing, implementing, and ensuring compliance with internal financial and accounting policies and procedures

  • Managing treasury functions, including cash management, banking relationships, and investment accounts in collaboration with investment advisors

  • Coordinating all external financial audits, including preparation of audited financial statements and auditor-requested schedules

  • Overseeing preparation and coordination of IRS Form 990, year-end 1099s, and 1095s, and serving as a key contact with tax preparers and the IRS

  • Coordinating annual rating reviews with A.M. Best

  • Overseeing internal audit activities across eligibility, groups, providers, claims, accounts payable, and payroll

  • Ensuring financial data security and compliance with applicable laws and regulations

  • Establishing guidelines for budgeting and forecasting and preparing the annual administrative budget with the CFO and department leaders

  • Promoting and enforcing WHA privacy and information security policies, including ensuring staff training and compliance

  • Performing special projects and additional duties as assigned

What We’re Looking For

We’re seeking a finance leader with deep accounting knowledge, strong leadership capabilities, and experience operating in a regulated environment.

Required Qualifications

  • Extensive experience in financial accounting, reporting, budgeting, and audit coordination

  • Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)

  • Demonstrated experience managing teams, setting performance expectations, and developing staff

  • Experience coordinating external audits and working with regulatory bodies

  • Strong analytical, communication, and presentation skills

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with executive leadership and cross-functional teams

  • Strong commitment to data security, compliance, and ethical financial practices

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in healthcare or health plan environments

  • Experience working with nonprofit or regulated organizations

  • Familiarity with IRS Form 990, statutory reporting, and rating agency reviews (e.g., A.M. Best)
