Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Environmental Services Technician, you'll keep our patient rooms and all areas of the hospital clean and sanitized. This protects everyone from potential illness or injury due to infectious diseases or other hazards.

Every day, you will perform routine cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, or dusting. You will also use specialized equipment and techniques to further sanitize our facility. This role requires you to learn and adhere to proper disposal techniques for biohazard materials, including bodily fluids or sharp objects. You may also refill soap dispensers, paper towel dispensers, and other supplies, as well as deliver clean linens.

  • Cleans and sanitizes all patient and ancillary departments, offices and public areas.
  • Cleans assigned areas by washing walls, doors, door frames, ceiling, patient and non-patient furniture, fans, vents, fixtures, floors, carpets and windows.
  • Cleans assigned areas within the given eight-hour period. Selects and prepares proper chemical solution for all jobs. Compliance must meet department cleaning standards.
  • Collects and transports infectious, chemo, pharmaceutical and pathological waste in special waste containers.
  • Collects, processes and disposes of trash and linen throughout the facility. Compliance will be met at 100% as per Universal Precautions and Glove Policy.
  • Maintains janitors' carts/closets stocked and neat. Compliance will be met at 100%.

Job Requirements

Required:

 

  • Basic housekeeping practices and procedures, Proper handling/disposal of infectious waste, Proper safety skills in handling of housekeeping chemicals and equipment, Basic floor care practices
  • Knowledge of proper cleaning, sanitation, infectious waste, floor and carpet care including knowledge of aseptic procedures, detergent/germicide solution and proper use and cleaning of equipment, proper use of safety standards and procedures in housekeeping skills.

 

Preferred:

 

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
